Yapılış Tarihi | 10 June 2025, Tuesday
The Honamlı goat population, developed as a result of comprehensive scientific breeding studies conducted by Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ) for approximately 15 years, with a high twinning rate and free from diseases, has been acquired by Bursa Uludağ University.
This valuable genetic material, which will form the basis of new herds at the Bursa Uludağ University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Research and Application Farm, will be used in the university's education, research, and application fields; at the same time, it will contribute to the development of policies aimed at the sustainability of local livestock. The acquisition of the high-genetic Honamlı goat produced at MAKÜ farms by Uludağ University will guide not only scientific production but also the shaping of regional livestock strategies.
The Honamlı goat is a local genotype known for its high adaptability, resistance to harsh natural conditions, and strong life resilience, and it is commonly bred in mountainous regions such as Antalya, Isparta, Burdur, and Konya. Its ability to efficiently convert the natural vegetation in rugged terrains into meat and milk makes this breed a strategic resource both biologically and economically. Additionally, thanks to its kids that grow faster compared to other goat breeds, it offers producers the advantage of early slaughter and high yield.
